The Alaska Department of Health (DOH) has awarded healthEconnect Alaska, the state’s health information exchange (HIE), a new contract to expand its interoperability services. HealthEconnect has experienced significant growth, doubling its user base and increasing participating organizations by 40% from 2021 to 2022. The new contract aims to extend services to historically underserved rural and urban communities, emphasizing the importance of timely and accurate health information for patient-centered care. The HIE, affiliated with CRISP Shared Services, strives to enhance health outcomes and reduce costs by providing standardized data exchange for holistic patient care. Partnerships with organizations like the Alaska DOH have led to initiatives such as the Annual HIE Summit, showcasing innovative uses of the HIE to improve physical, behavioral, and social health outcomes.
